Fancy Drinks in Rio de Janeiro: Rooftop Bars, Cocktails, and Wine Spots

Written by Gio · Reviewed by Gui · Up to date as of February 2026

Rio knows how to do drinks well everywhere, but when you’re in the mood for something a little more refined, the city really shines. Think rooftop cocktails with ocean views, lush terraces at sunset, creative bartenders playing with Brazilian ingredients, and wine bars where the music, crowd, and atmosphere matter just as much as what’s in your glass.

This list is for slower evenings, good conversation, and places where style feels sophisticated without being snobby. From Santa Teresa to Ipanema, these are our favorite spots in Rio for fancy drinks done right.

On this page
  • Aprazível – sunset and greenery in Santa Teresa
  • Isabel Lounge – rooftop cocktails in Copacabana
  • Nosso Ipanema – creative cocktails in Ipanema
  • Toto Ipanema – perfect mix of good food, drinks and vibes
  • Virtuoso Vinho – for cool people who enjoy natural wine and vinyls

Aprazível – sunset and greenery in Santa Teresa

Aprazível is the cutest place for late afternoon drinks to watch the sunset and the city lights come on. Lush terrace, panoramic city views, and a calm, romantic vibe. You'll find a lot of caipirinha options, like maracuja (passion fruit), carambola (star fruit), and a delightful selection of natural wines.

Good to know: reservations are especially recommended close to sunset. Also, Santa Teresa streets are steep and quiet at night, so it's best to take an Uber. This is a place to linger, not rush, and prices reflect the setting and experience.

Isabel Lounge – rooftop cocktails in Copacabana

Go here if you want a quiet luxury vibe at the rooftop of Hilton Copacabana Hotel. The bar offers signature cocktails made with Brazilian herbs and seeds, inspired by the country's biomes. The atmosphere is modern, sophisticated, yet relaxed and casual. The thing we love the most is the rooftop's height, which makes it feel removed from the street without being disconnected from the city. At sunset, the light hits the building softly, turning the whole scene warm and cinematic, just perfect for Rio.

Good to know: this is a hotel rooftop bar with controlled entry, so reservations or early arrival are a good idea. Dress code is Resort Chic: simple, but elegant. It’s ideal for sunset or early evening drinks, not late-night partying.

Avenida Atlântica, 1020, Copacabana, 22010-000

Nosso Ipanema – creative cocktails in Ipanema

This is the best spot for incredible pours. A very charming place with a roof terrace with DJ sets where the bartender Daniel Estevan pours out his creativity by combining the world classics with his experiences in the Amazon forest. He is always changing the house's signature drinks, with a lot of tropical, Brazilian flavors. You won't regret trying one (or a few).

Good to know: seating is limited, and the bar fills up quickly on weekends. This is a spot for people who enjoy cocktails and conversation, not loud music. Going earlier in the evening increases your chances of getting a good seat at the bar, or make a reservation.

Rua Maria Quitéria, 91, Ipanema, 22410-040

Toto Ipanema – perfect mix of good food, drinks and vibes

Here you can expect well-crafted cocktails, a strong wine list, and a stylish crowd that values taste over hype, very much in line with Ipanema’s quieter, more sophisticated side. We love this one! It was also featured on The World's 50 Best Discovery in 2025.

Good to know: reservations are recommended, especially if you plan to eat (and you should!). The crowd is stylish but laid-back, and the vibe is more about food, drinks, and conversation than partying. Ideal for a slower night that still feels special.

Rua Joana Angélica, 155, Ipanema, 22420-030

Virtuoso Vinho – for cool people who enjoy natural wine and vinyls

The sommelier here carefully curates a wine list that leans toward quality and discovery over trends. The best for us is the decor that creates a sexy atmosphere together with a young and alternative public, ideal for people watching. Also a great place for a date to sit, talk and taste.

Good to know: this is a small, intimate wine bar, so seating is limited and it fills up quickly, especially on weekends. Reservations are a good idea if you’re going at peak hours. The focus here is clearly on wine rather than partying, so expect a calm, conversational atmosphere.

Rua Gomes Carneiro, 130 - loja B, Ipanema, 22071-110

As you can see, Rio is all about evenings that feel special without showing off, just staying, sipping, and enjoying the moment. If modern cocktails, thoughtful wine lists, and beautiful settings are your vibe, save this list and let the night unfold at Rio’s own pace. And if the night calls for dancing after that last glass, our guide to the best nightlife in Rio de Janeiro picks up where this one ends.
